Why a dedicated site?

A generalist gives general advice.

Startups aren't small versions of big companies. You need answers about share structures, founder pay, VAT timing, R&D relief and runway — not a generalist who mostly does landlords' tax returns. This site, and the team behind it, focus on exactly one thing: getting UK start-ups from incorporation to grown-up finances without waste.

How we work

The promises we actually keep

Fixed fees, in writing: Your monthly price is agreed before you sign and does not wobble. Extra work is quoted before it happens, never invoiced after.
A named accountant: A person, not a portal queue. WhatsApp, email or a call — questions are included rather than billable events, so asking one early costs you nothing.
Deadlines owned by us: We track every filing date that applies to you and chase you before HMRC would. If something is late, that is our failure to report, not yours to discover.
Software included: FreeAgent in every package, worth up to £330 a year, set up and maintained by us rather than sold to you as an add-on.
More than compliance, when you want it: Management accounts, forecasting, funding and coaching are there when the numbers say it is time — and we will say when it is not yet.
Straight talk: If something is not worth paying for, we tell you, including when the thing not worth paying for is us. No jargon, no fluff.

The people behind Buzz

Buzz was built by two people who got tired of the profession's worst habits — the jargon, the once-a-year silence, the surprise bills.

Andy Jackson

Co-founder

Andy is an entrepreneur and operator who has spent his career building better professional-services businesses — practices that run on strong systems and plain-speaking advice rather than billable-hour meters and jargon. He co-founded Buzz to prove an accountancy firm could be genuinely useful to the people it serves, and drove its expansion into an international group spanning the UK and South Africa.

Peter Allen

Co-founder & Finance Director

Peter is a seasoned accounting professional with more than 20 years' experience. He built and grew his own accountancy firm organically — client by client, referral by referral — to a substantial recurring fee base, so he understands from the inside what business owners actually need from their accountant. As Buzz's co-founder and Finance Director he sets the quality bar for the group's financial work.

How it runs

What working with us is actually like

Week one — the handover
You send one email to your old accountant; we do the rest. Professional clearance, the records request, the HMRC authorisations and the software setup. You are not chasing anybody and you are not having an awkward conversation.

Week two — the setup
FreeAgent connected to your bank feed, your opening position agreed, and every filing date that applies to you put in our calendar rather than yours. If something was filed wrong before you arrived, this is when we find it and say so.

Every month — the bit most firms skip
Your books are kept current, not reconstructed in month thirteen. It is what lets us forecast your tax bill through the year instead of presenting it to you in January.

Whenever you need us — the questions
WhatsApp, email or a call. Questions are included rather than metered, which is the only arrangement under which anybody actually asks one early enough for the answer to be worth having.

Year end — no drama
Accounts and the tax return prepared from records that were already right, filed on time, with the number confirmed to you well before it is due.

Scope

What we are not

We are not the cheapest, and we are not trying to be. Our fees are fixed and quoted in writing, which means they have to cover the work being done properly rather than assume you will never ring.

We do not do statutory audit. If your company grows past the audit exemption thresholds we will tell you and refer you to a registered auditor rather than pretending otherwise. We do not give regulated financial advice either — where that is what you need, we introduce you to people authorised to give it, and we say plainly that the introduction is what it is.

And we will tell you when something is not worth paying for, including when the thing not worth paying for is us. If you would be better served for another six months by the free support your local growth hub already offers, that is what we will say.
